What to demand
The independent practice checklist
Claims out daily. Ask for the actual submission cadence in writing. Your charges sitting in a weekly batch is a cash-flow decision someone else made for you.
A named contact. One person who knows your practice, your payers, and your history. Ask who it is, and what happens when they're on vacation.
Reporting you can read. Billed, paid, denied and why, in plain English, monthly. Ask for a sample report before signing.
Paid on collections. A percentage of what they collect, never of what they charge. Ask directly; read the proposal twice.
Contract terms you can live with. Ask about length, termination, and what happens to your data if you leave. The answers vary wildly; the question is free.
Pulmonology fluency. Ask the PFT interpretation question and the 94010/94060 question from our procedure pages. A generalist will improvise; you'll hear it.
